OPEN BOOKS...OPEN MINDS

"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
— Dr. Seuss

Once upon a time...aah, that's how many stories begin, especially fairy tales!  Still, it's a nice opening for a piece of writing!

Once upon a time...in the Dark Ages...there were book burnings...among many other things.

Once upon a time...in this current Age...we've had book burnings..among many other things.

China had mass burnings during Mao's Cultural Revolution. M & I first taught at a University with a beautiful library building...only things missing were?  What else...the books.

Many countries have strict censorship...thankfully, we do not.  However with all the latest means of communication, censorship is almost impossible.  One way or another people will stay current with the latest news, etc...and find a way to read what they want.

We've the freedom to read what we like in this country; pick and choose what tickles our fancy, right?

I wonder, do you have a personal list of 'approved authors' or do you read by the subject you're interested in?  Some people do, you know.  There are those whose political and religious leanings dictate what and who they'll read from/about.

I read many different authors/writings...and sift through what I think is true, false or questionable...I also pray for wisdom.

Truthfully?  I prefer reading things that agree with my thinking...but if I don't try to understand how others think and feel...what happens?  Stand-off...a real stand-off...among other things!

Nothing good may come of trying to understand...but surely an open mind is healthier than a closed one.

"A closed mind is a dying mind"
Edna Ferber
